Network Marketing

One of the important things to do when evaluating a network marketing or MLM opportunity is to check on the reputation of the company behind the opportunity. The company's reputation is important. It can tell you a lot about the strength of the opportunity and how people perceive it. You can see whether you'll be fighting battles you shouldn't have to.Consider Amway, the granddaddy of all MLM opportunities. When Amway was still being promoted under that name a few years ago, what was the first thing that came to mind if someone mentioned the "Amway" name? It probably didn't bring up positive thoughts or associations. One reason Amway had a weak reputation was due to recruiting practices taught by the large upline groups.I'm sure you remember the secretive approach and the efforts Amway distributors made to get people to meetings without revealing that it was Amway up front. There were lots of excuses and reasoning for this approach, but it helped give the company and opportunity a less than stellar reputation. Thus, if you signed up in Amway, you not only had the usual challenges of starting a successful MLM business, you also had to fight against the perception of the company at large - whether it was right or wrong. So, when evaluating a network marketing opportunity, take time to look at the company's reputation. If the company has been in business less than a year or two, it might be difficult to learn much. I always recommend getting started with opportunities that have been around at least two years, preferably three years or more. Here are a few things you can do.- Ask at least 20 people you know if they've heard of the company, products, or opportunity. Get their reactions. If none out of 20 have heard of it, try asking a few more. If the company is new, you may not find anyone who has heard about it.- Search Google on the company name, and also on negative variations like "the name of the company + scam". Once an opportunity is well established, you can find a lot of comments. People will tend to post and talk about their experiences, both good and bad.- Find out who the CEO is, and the founders of the company. Do a search on their names. See what people are saying about them. In some cases they have been in MLM management before and have a known track record.- Search Google Groups for the company name and variations as above.- Search Google for terms like "MLM forums" or "network marketing message boards" - visit these discussions and search for comments on the company. You can also join the discussion and ask questions.Don't be surprised if you find at least a few negative comments about any company you research. With the ease of spreading information on the Internet these days, any disgruntled distributor can stir things up and post negatives all over the place.A few negative comments here and there are probably not a big deal. If you see a pattern with a lot of different people expressing concerns about the company, products, or opportunity consider that a red flag and dig deeper.Your best bet is an established company with a good reputation. Don't neglect this important consideration when evaluating a network marketing or MLM business opportunity.

Career in Marketing

Marketing often appeals to not only creative thinkers, but also numbers-minded statisticians. While many jobs in marketing are appealing keep in mind that you must be willing to work long hours and not mind working evenings and/or weekends. It was reported that in the year 2000 38% of advertising, public relations, and marketing managers worked an average of 50 hours per week. You must be able to work well under pressure and thrive off meeting deadlines and goals that are set. In some positions substantial travel is not uncommon.
Marketing is a vital necessity not only for business firms, but is also performed by governments, educational, religious, social service, and nonprofit organizations or institutions. Marketing provides a great number and variety of job opportunities available to you no matter which career track you decide to follow.

B2B Marketing Options

In recent weeks I met with a B2B company to discuss marketing options. The topic of community and social media came up and I was reminded of how difficult it has been for the B2B segment of businesses to grasp a hold of the power in social media when one business is marketing to another. The value has still not been understood. They still view this type of marketing as not relating to them, when in actuality social marketing is becoming one of the most effective ways to market online.
in today's economy B2B companies are decreasing their marketing dollars and spending more online. A recent survey by B2B Magazine revealed that over 48% of those surveyed were increasing their online marketing spend.
Why is there such an effectiveness in social media?
Truth is, so many people are tired of "marketing speak." Social media allows companies to relate to one another and bypass the fluff.
Let's take a look at what the online definition of social media, I've chosen to use the definition from wikipedia since it is user generated.
Social media describes the online technologies and practices that people use to share opinions, insights, experiences, and perspectives with each other. Social media can take many different forms, including text, images, audio, and video. Popular social mediums include blogs, message boards, podcasts, wikis, and vlogs.
The definition alone should reveal to you how important it is that B2B companies explore social media marketing channels.
In a recent study done by KnowledgeStorm of B2B technology decision makers the following statistics were revealed:
90% Participate in Video
80% Participate in Blogs
80% Participate in Wikis
69% Participate in Social Networks
53% Participate in Podcasts
In the same study it was shared that of 69% of B2B buyers use social networks "primarily for business networking and development."
At a minimum B2B businesses should at least be involved in communities and social network where there customers already are. Explore the opportunity to reach out to key influencers in your target market and optimize your content and social media applications for syndication.
I know that stepping out into social media can feel somewhat daunting for more traditional marketing team, but it doesn't have to be difficult to be successful. Chose a few initiatives that will work well for your company and gain you incremental success until you are more comfortable in really delving into the social media and applications.
Social media enables you to :
Share your expertise and knowledge
Tap into the wisdom of your consumers
Enables customers helping customers

Marketing Manager

Marketing plays an important role in almost every industry sector. In its simplest form, it is about ensuring that customers' needs are met whilst maximising the profits of a company. A marketing manager's responsibilities can vary enormously, but will always have this as a central objective.
Daily tasks and duties will depend on the company size, structure and industry sector but may include:
monitoring and analysing market trends
studying competitors' products and services
exploring ways of improving existing products and services, and increasing profitability
identifying target markets and developing strategies to communicate with them.
Most marketing managers work 37 hours a week, between the hours of 9am and 6pm. As with many jobs with tight deadlines, they may be expected to work additional hours at certain times to ensure that targets are met. Some positions may require a lot of travel, particularly when working for an international company.
Salaries can range from around £25,000 a year for someone new to the role, to £40,000 or more for a senior manager.
A marketing manager should:
have knowledge of a wide range of marketing techniques and concepts
be an excellent communicator
be able to respond well to pressure
think creatively
be interested in what motivates people
All industry sectors employ marketing managers. Jobs are generally concentrated around major cities such as London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool. This is a popular area of work so competition can be intense.
There are no set entry routes, but marketing managers often progress into the role after gaining several years of marketing experience, possibly as an executive or assistant, or in a specialist role such as advertising or brand manager. Typically, employers look for graduates.
On-the-job training is complemented by professional marketing qualifications. These range from introductory certificates to advanced level qualifications.
A successful marketing manager may be able to progress to more senior posts such as marketing director or even managing director. It may be possible to work abroad.

New Job Boards

Monster is all about their new site. That isn’t actaully available. And will not be available this year. That does not stop them advertising it for the last couple of months. They started sounding a bit like Microsoft advertising their Vista. A lot of hipe, for a long, long time, but the result is…
Well let’s give Monster a chance to actaully show it to us. They promised it in Januarry next year (how crazy do you have to be to release teh new version of the job site in the month when job boards have the most traffic? If someting goes wrong, and things allways go wrong with the new releases, do you really need to show it to the most of visitors?
Well I guess it was a marketing driven decission, as Monsters decisions allways are, as oposed to the someones who knows how to run the operations.
Releasing a new jobs site in the year 2009, I would consider to be a failure if it does not have an element of the social networking. Is Monster smart and brave enough to bring the social networking in online recruitment on a large scale, as oposed to what LinkedIN is trying to do? Let’s wait and see ….
Untill then we will just be getting thoise emails and PDF’s titled Take a sneak peek at the new Monster or simmilar…

However, it's not as simple as that. If you take some time to do some research and explore your post-graduate options, you will find yourself in front of a plethora of different sales career choices. Further, there is generally a huge demand for these types of sales jobs, as there will always be customers in need of financial services. A job in sales in the financial sector can be very lucrative and rewarding, if you're successful and willing to put in the effort.
The service industry is another major area in which you can begin your sales career. Service sales representatives provide regular services and introduce new products and services to existing clients. Pharmaceutical and medical sectors are growing and are great areas in which to look for sales jobs.
Another great area for sales career choices is the high-end retails sales industry, if you don't mind working in retail. They may not be as glamorous as other sectors, but if you know what you're doing, work great with people, are friendly and helpful, this might be the perfect sales career choice for you. Other areas for sales jobs include collections and telemarketing, which can be great paying with other incentives and bonuses, but also quite challenging and frustrating.
Whatever you decide, the sky is the limit as far as sales career options go, and be prepared to change jobs, sectors, and industries several times before you find your "niche" and perfect fit.

Sales Management training

Sales Training, the good the bad and the ugly
Sales can be one of the most profitable and most difficult jobs one can ever have. We have all heard the jokes and ugly stories about the used car salesman that had little or no scruples. But are all sales people without scruples? And how does one train to be a successful salesperson without falling into the nasty used car salesman category? Most large firms, businesses and establishment that are sales oriented offer their own training program. For example, Toyota has a three month intensive training program they put all their prospective sales people through that entail everything from prospecting, to cold calls, handling objections and most importantly, closing the deal. There are also independent consultants that offer training programs on becoming a successful sales person. Following is a comprehensive list of what that training may entail. The Seven “Fs” to Successful Sales ProspectingThe steps to successful training are basic and are outlined as follows;FINDING prospects is the number one F on the list. We need not only to find the prospects, but also set a time and place in which to do so. You will need to have a place free of distraction in which to do your prospecting. Setting a time is also very important. The majority of sales people try to fit in prospecting between other activities of the day when in fact the day should be planned around prospecting. Finding leads and possible clients is vital to being a successful sales person. If you do not schedule a specific time in which to do your daily prospecting it is likely to be left undone. Habit and consistency are vital to success. Set a time each day and stick to it. It is best not to call before 9 AM or after 8 PM and also avoid the dinner hour. Yes, more people are home, but they will be less willing to listen if their dinner is interrupted. FORGET all past failures. You must start each day and each phone call fresh and ready for success. If you focus only on your failures that will be all you will achieve. In sales it is basically a numbers came and the more phone calls or prospects you reach the better your chance for success. For every 100 phone calls you may get 9 people to listen, three that will want more information and one that will actually buy. You can not let the numbers scare you or detour you from your quest. Each call is a possible sale and positive thinking and a positive attitude will ring through the phone. No one likes to make cold calls, but they are a very important part of most sales oriented businesses.. One must FIGHT the urge to put it off. It is easy to become distracted and to let your prospecting go. The most successful sales people are those that do not allow themselves to be distracted from the task at hand.FOCUS is incredibly important. If you have ever witnessed a successful person in any field, you will have noticed how focused they appear. They are on a mission and will not stray from it. Once you have the place and have forgotten the past failures, focus will allow you to succeed where others have failed.FOLLOW through; create a game plan and stick to it. Most people go through the day without any plan at all and all it to just go along till something happens. To be a success, you must make things happen. This means to create a plan and to follow through with it. Making alist of things to do may sound simple and corny, nut it works, putting your intended actions into words on paper make them real and much harder to ignore. Have FAITH in yourself and your commitments and faithful to following the plan. You can set a simple goal of making ten new contacts a day. Ten phone calls are easy and anyone could make ten calls with out a lot of effort or time. If this plan is followed faithfully everyday by the end of one year imagine how many new clients you would have touched? Sales are a numbers came and the more you do the more you will get.. The final F is perhaps the most important: FINISH. Always set goals and do not quit till you have accomplished them. Do not settle for less than the best from yourself and your success will follow. The use of training scripts are a useful tool and role playing with a partner will make it easier for you to handle real situations with the public better. Practice your meet and greet everyday till you are comfortable with your part. Create list of possible objections and then create a list on how to eliminate them. Practice your closing and master it well. Some sales training pushes how not to take no for answer where the best bet is to sometime realize that a no for now is better than pushing the client away for good. Be patient without being a pushover, strong with out strong arming. By being the best sales person you can be, your clients will not only come back, but they will also tell all their friends.

Pressure Selling ?

Pressure selling versus solution selling
Marketing Techniques that workMarketing is a field that involves a lot of tact and skill. Every business needs to take highly effective marketing as a make-or-break necessity. You cannot be successful without good marketing and sales techniques. People have to know about all the wonderful things your business can do for them, in such a manner that they can pay for them and be happy about it. Now this is what I will call solution selling. This further involves knowing who your customers are and getting so close enough to them to be able to virtually anticipate their needs and desires, and solve them.I will define pressure selling as the hit-or-miss kind of marketing, based on instincts and maybe some hard work, without or with little attention to basic rules or strategies that falls in line with the product in question. The fact is that though pressure selling is not the best kind, we cannot rule out our instincts in marketing. There has to be a combination of a far larger percentage of solution selling and a little of pressure selling. You can see why it has to be so as you read on.Marketing basically focuses on the consumers, or buyers. When the consumer needs and desires are determined, marketers begin to strategize on ways to educate prospective customers about the product’s most important feature, and how much the product meets their need, persuading them to buy it, and then make sure that their satisfaction is enhanced even after the purchase. In today’s business, marketing does not stop with sales. It is a characteristic belief in mordent business that marketing actually begins with sales, making more obvious, the profitability of selling more to existing customers than to new ones. The question in the modern marketer’s mind today is “what strategies and marketing techniques can be employed to turn a onetime customer into a life-time purchaser?” Now this is the question of one who wants to do the solution selling or marketing. Pressure selling stops with “How can I sell these products and beat the marketing deadline now?” the question you ask now determines the steps and strategies to be followed to meet the expectation. The new solution selling innovation adds value to the traditional marketing techniques of planning, organizing, directing, controlling and decision-making. Marketing use these and more to make out the best in the product lines, pricing, promotion and servicing. Marketing has a larger authority in most of the areas, and play a key determining advisory role in others, one of which is product-line development. They also supervise and ensure a profitable flow of products from the factory to the market. What other issues make up successful modern day marketing?Ideal marketing involves tailoring the product to meet a perfect or at least, a near-perfect need of all the consumers in target. A product-line is generally similar in style or design, but may differ in price, size, content packaging and quality. Even though a product line, as believed by most marketers must be correlated to customers’ needs, it is a solution selling marketing decision to adjust the items and lines of the product after a period of time in order to respond to market changes and also increase profitability. All activities done to this effect is what is referred to as Product Tailoring. The next is pricing. To price a product, two main factors are considered: the manufacturing cost and the competition in the market. It is not profitable to sell a product below the production costs, neither is it feasible to sell at a higher price than that offered by the comparable merchandise. Marketing products effectively might involve considering these and other important solution selling factors as the company policy, government regulations and other numerous factors.Product promotion is the motive behind all advertising and marketing techniques. Be it personal (face to face) kind or direct selling, sales promotions, building relationships or any other applicable and incentive method, all are geared towards a solution selling product promotion. It must be creative, informative and persuasive among other things. Today, the internet is about the biggest instrument in product promotion.Advertising is the one of the marketer’s biggest branding strategy. Beyond making consumers aware of a product’s special low price and benefits, advertising attaches an image to a product. Pressure selling of course advertises too, but solution selling advertizes with the market research results in view. A good marketer creates with advertising, such a covetable image and status of life that will no doubt, drive every customer to the product.Having gotten the audience, the next possible marketing step involved is direct selling. Personal selling focuses on one individual customer at a time. This is a relative marketing technique. This may be expensive but it is no doubt, effective. This is where the customers are given detailed explanation, careful price and payment negotiation, customized application, and all that. Sales promotion is another marketing technique that guarantees marketing success. This activity can either supplement and/or coordinate advertising and direct selling. In addition to the brand image building, sales promotion increases the volume of sales. Customers are persuaded to purchase immediately through the provision of special incentives like prizes, special rebates, extra products and so on. Promotions increase sales. Though they may reduce profits, it will be beneficial in the long run.Building relationship is the modern day marketer’s strategy of increased patronage and profits. It is easier and less expensive to service known customers. Activities like loyalty programs, customized provision of goods according to specific customers design and seasonal gifts are used to retain customers. These activities may also make informal marketers of the consumers, bringing in new ones. A passionate solution seller wants the customer to stay, so he makes every move to achieve that.It is also a marketing responsibility to decipher the best distribution methods and systems for the effective disbursement of products. While some products are most effectively marketed directly from the manufacturer to the consumer, others are best sold via medium like the internet. Direct sales via home shopping clubs, television, telephones and other electronic mediums are also good measures of distribution.Wholesaling is a very good solution selling marketing initiative. Wholesalers distribute goods in very large quantities, mostly to retailers, who in turn sell them in smaller quantities to the final consumers. Retailing today has transcended into something bigger today. Supermarkets, discount stores, self-service shops, have become a common place for all kinds of basic goods and services. There is an increasing emphasis on generating store traffic, transaction speed-up, sales volume expansion, chain stores vending machines and convenience stores. These are positive factors marketers should consider and take good advantage of.Marketing also involves transportation and warehousing. Ability to manage traffic and determine the best timetable of product shipment for product is a strong market success determinant. Providing effective distribution channels makes the marketing techniques used to make sense. The joy of the consumer fills up when the goods he bought reaches him on time. Now where does pressure marketing come in? Let’s put it simple: the marketer has got to strategize and get all these things done within a time frame. While some strategies you employ worked for some of your prospective, some others simply won’t. The truth is that though you advertised for a particular target group, your product will also be purchased by people who do not belong to your target. Now what if you only advertised in a place where only your targets lived. You’ve lost out on the minority, as well as their money.

Tricks to sales

You know there are still some sales managers out there who instead of insuring proper amounts of qualified leads for their sales force will instead throw a new salesman or woman a darn phone book and say good luck, there is the phone? Oh great the new salesperson thinks.
Now-a-days you cannot call people on Do Not Call Lists, so instead these phone books only work when calling government white page listings or yellow page business sections. Which if you company sells to businesses seems to work okay.
Unfortunately the sales managers who do this make a few mistakes because each salesman ought to know a little something about the industry sector they are calling on first. I can tell having been in business a long time and generally the first listing in each business sector we were in that depending on the listing we would get different sales people from the same darn company calling us.
For instance we do pressure washing and cleaning and are in sections of Automotive, Marine, Aircraft, Trucks, Real Estate, Concrete, etc.. So, the “A” section; we would often get called by one person and the rest of the alphabet later in the week by other folks. What really irks me is that so often the person calling did not understand our business and wanted to sell us janitorial supplies, toilet paper, cleaning products and just went on and on.
Silly and pathetic and this would go on for two-weeks or so and stop. Then in six-months it would start up again, same darn company. But it was not just that company, so many companies do this, but none of them seem to train their salespeople understand the businesses that they are calling first. I hope if you are a sales manager you will figure it out and do it right, so, consider this in 2008/9.
Do you think you are a non stop vending machine that can’t stop selling no matter what? Do you feel as if you have been molded perfectly for sales? Well, then a sales job is the perfect thing for you.
‘Sales’ is one of the channels of business that will continue to exist as long as businesses do. It will never go extinct. It might just switch modes but the need for the salesman will always be constant.
For all those who wish to make a career in sales, it is crucial to have the right beginning. If you start off with the right company, it is half the battle won. But how do you find the right company?
